FIRST Takes the Field
This year, a number of FIRST teams will be competing in a pair of FIRST Robotics Football Showcases, the second of which is being held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Showing their versatility, the teams have transformed their robots into football players for gridiron-themed challenges, where their bots will punt, pass, and launch their way to victory.

Nuts and Bolts

The FIRST Robotics Competition is rightly called "the ultimate sport for the mind." Since 1989, teams of at least 10 high school students and two adult mentors have registered in the fall and kicked off the official season in January. Teams have only six weeks to build a robot before competing in district and regional competitions. After that, it's on to the season finale: the FIRST Championship in St. Louis, Missouri.

In 2016, NRG-sponsored teams included two squads from the Houston area: Texas Torque and Klein Bots. Each designed its robot – Impulse and Sabre, respectively – to meet the challenges of this year's FIRST Robotics Competition.

NRG and FIRST are proud to help cultivate and motivate these bright young minds, to inspire these students to power a better tomorrow. After all, FIRST is more than just robots.

2016 FIRST Championship

This year's FIRST Championship in St. Louis, Missouri brought together students of all ages, 900 teams from around the world, and over 40,000 attendees to see the "ultimate sport for the mind" in action. We were proud to be there in St. Louis supporting the future of STEM between our NRG mentors, sponsored teams and our Innovation Faire booth. We can't wait until next year - and to see what's next for the innovators of tomorrow.

Sparking Inspiration

Nearly two dozen NRG mentors in seven states volunteer their time, energy and technical skills to help FIRST teams succeed. Our involvement in educational initiatives, and competitions like FIRST and the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE, helps create the power of tomorrow by empowering the tinkerers, doers and thinkers of today.
